A significant earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck the Delhi-NCR region on Thursday morning, sending tremors through Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and other nearby areas. The earthquake’s epicenter was located 4 km northeast of Jhajjar in Haryana, and it originated at a depth of 14 km.
Residents across multiple locations, particularly in Delhi and its neighboring areas, experienced noticeable shaking, prompting some to evacuate their homes as household items swayed. In professional environments like office spaces in Noida and Gurugram, employees reported shaking computer systems and felt the quake’s impact at their workplaces.
The tremors were not confined to Delhi alone; they were also felt up to 200 km away in Meerut and Shamli, western Uttar Pradesh, demonstrating the earthquake’s reach.
This recent event follows another moderate earthquake with a similar magnitude that occurred in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district earlier in the week. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) recorded that earthquake at a depth of 25 kilometers, causing temporary panic but no significant damage or injuries.
Fortunately, despite the earthquake’s moderate intensity, initial reports indicate that there were no casualties or major property damage, reflecting preparedness in the region. This resilience in the face of natural events highlights the importance of community awareness and emergency preparedness in mitigating potential risks associated with earthquakes.
