Travis Kelce is making his debut in the television world, teasing his role in Ryan Murphy’s new FX series, Grotesquerie. The three-time Super Bowl champion expressed enthusiasm for the horror drama, which airs for the first time on Wednesday at 10 PM ET/PT. He praised Murphy’s work on the series, stating, “He did an unbelievable job.”
During a conversation on the New Heights podcast with his brother Jason Kelce, Travis shared his excitement about appearing in a mystery thriller, saying, “I cannot wait to see everybody’s reaction. Kinda scary. What the f— is going on? It’ll get you thinking now. Buckle up, boys!”
When questioned by Jason about whether his character is “even alive,” referencing a potential Sixth Sense twist, Travis humorously responded, “Are any of us alive, Jason? No. … It might be a little of that. I don’t—maybe though.”
The show’s ten episodes revolve around a string of unsettling crimes in a small community. Detective Lois Tryon, portrayed by Niecy Nash-Betts, senses a personal connection to the crimes, which seem to taunt her. Lacking leads, she teams up with Sister Megan, a journalist and nun played by Micaela Diamond. As they piece together clues, they become caught in a dark web that raises more questions than answers.
Travis’s character details have not been disclosed. He mentioned on the podcast that he had not yet seen any footage, as he had been focused on training for the upcoming football season. “I read the scripts and everything, and I focused on my parts more than I understood the entire grand scheme of the show,” he explained. “There are parts that I was watching the trailer, I was just like, ‘Oh, this is really interesting.’ I’m definitely gonna dive in and watch it for sure.”
Ryan Murphy revealed that he created a character specifically for Travis after the Kansas City Chiefs player expressed an interest in acting. Murphy recalled, “He said he was interested in getting into acting…it ended with me saying, ‘Okay, well, I’ll keep you in mind.’ And he said, ‘No, I want to do it now.’”
After writing a role for him, Murphy praised Travis’s professionalism, highlighting his dedication to the craft and eagerness to learn. “He showed up off book. He knew everybody’s lines. He was so professional and committed,” said Murphy.
Niecy Nash-Betts also commended Travis for being very professional, stating he was open to suggestions and feedback.
The cast celebrated the show’s premiere in New York City as Travis Kelce gears up to compete against the Chargers on Sunday in Los Angeles.
