Travis Kelce is set to make his scripted television debut this month in Ryan Murphy’s new FX series, Grotesquerie. Murphy revealed during a press conference that the role was specifically created for Kelce after he expressed a desire to pursue acting.
During a pre-production meeting for Grotesquerie, Kelce indicated his interest in acting, stating he wanted to dive into a role right away. Murphy noted that he found the perfect part for Kelce and made a commitment to tailor it for him, to which Kelce immediately agreed.
Murphy directed the first episode featuring Kelce, who acted alongside Niecy Nash-Betts. He praised Kelce’s professionalism and dedication, highlighting how he worked with an acting coach for several months and came prepared, knowing all his lines and those of others as well. Murphy described Kelce as coachable and expressed his eagerness to work with him again, commending him for his kindness and leadership.
Details about Kelce’s character remain under wraps, but the trailer offers a brief look at him in his undisclosed role.
Grotesquerie centers on Nash-Betts’s character, Detective Lois Tryon, who investigates a series of disturbing crimes affecting her small community. These incidents appear to be personal, almost as if someone is targeting her. Meanwhile, Lois struggles with her troubled relationship with her daughter, a husband in long-term care, and her own inner battles. With no clear leads and feeling lost, she turns to Sister Megan, portrayed by Micaela Diamond, for assistance. Sister Megan, despite her own troubled past, holds on to hope for humanity’s goodness, which contrasts with Lois’s growing fears of evil in the world. As they connect the clues, they become ensnared in a web of darkness, intensifying the mystery they face.
The cast also includes Courtney B. Vance, Lesley Manville, Raven Goodwin, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez.
