Cooperatives in Tikina Vanuaso, situated in Gau, have marked a significant milestone in enhancing their governance and management skills through a recent three-day Cooperative Management training hosted at Vanuaso Village. This initiative has proved to be immensely beneficial for the cooperatives involved.

Semesa Tuibua, a representative from the proposed Kaivunimoli Cooperative, noted that the training not only met but exceeded their expectations, providing essential guidance for their initial development. Tirisa Maibau, a member of the Miramira ni Savuralele Cooperative, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the critical insights gained regarding member responsibilities, effective record-keeping, and the importance of having clearly defined by-laws.

District Officer for Gau, Iliseva Salabogi, lauded the enthusiasm shown by the participants, particularly highlighting the active involvement of women-led groups. He also announced the establishment of three new cooperatives in the district, signaling a growing trend toward cooperative business models in the area.

Makereta Ledua, a representative from the Vanuaso Women’s Cooperative, shared her group’s new ambition inspired by the training, aiming to evolve their small shop into a wholesale trading enterprise. This aspiration demonstrates the positive influence the training has had on local entrepreneurs, sparking innovative ideas for business growth.

Salabogi portrayed the training program as a vital step towards cultivating robust and sustainable cooperative initiatives in Vanuaso, which is expected to contribute positively to the local economy.
