Southern California is reeling after the tragic death of Cal Fire Captain Rebecca Marodi, 49, who was found fatally stabbed in her Ramona home on February 17. Authorities have identified her wife, Yolanda Marodi, 53, also known as Yolanda Olejniczak, as a suspect in the case. The sheriff’s office stated that she is currently wanted and her location is unknown.

Emergency responders found Captain Marodi with multiple stab wounds shortly before 9 p.m., but despite their efforts, she died at the scene. An autopsy confirmed that her death was classified as a homicide due to stab wounds. The sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation to uncover the circumstances leading to this tragic event.

Yolanda Marodi is described as 5’2″ tall, weighing 166 pounds, with brown hair. The couple had been married for just over two years, and their marriage was marred by Yolanda’s previous conviction for voluntary manslaughter in 2003, stemming from the stabbing death of her first husband, Jim Olejniczak, in 2000. Following her conviction, she served more than 13 years in prison, along with additional time related to substance abuse issues, before her release from parole in 2015.

Captain Marodi was highly respected in her profession, dedicating over 30 years to the fire service. She began as a volunteer firefighter in 1993, transitioned to a full-time role in 2000, and was promoted to captain in 2022. Known for her commitment to peer support and hazardous materials response, her loss is mourned deeply by those who worked alongside her.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Yolanda Marodi’s whereabouts to contact the San Diego Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit or submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers.

This heartbreaking incident not only highlights the personal tragedies that can occur within close relationships but also reflects on the broader issue of violence and its impact on families and communities.
