A tragic incident unfolded in Sunrise, Florida, when a 27-year-old hairstylist, Hailey Hosford, was stabbed to death in a luxury apartment parking garage by a suspect identified as Jackson Sagesse. The altercation occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. on May 28, with Sagesse allegedly approaching Hosford as she exited a rental vehicle.
According to police reports, Hosford attempted to evade Sagesse by jumping back into the car, but he forcibly opened the door and attacked her. Security footage captured the violent encounter, showing Sagesse making repeated stabbing motions inside the vehicle. Upon hearing the commotion, a male friend of Hosford’s returned from his apartment, prompting a confrontation between him and Sagesse, during which the friend was also stabbed in the throat.
Police responded to the scene and found Hosford unresponsive in the car, where she had sustained multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Her friend, despite his injuries, managed to escape and contact authorities.
Hosford, who ran her own beauty salon in Fort Lauderdale and worked as a teacher and ambassador for a yoga and retreat company, is remembered fondly by friends as a “force to be reckoned with.” One of her friends recounted her last message, highlighting her positivity and warmth, saying, “The sun is shining, the sky is blue,” and expressing her love for her friend.
Following the attack, Sagesse was quickly identified by workers at the Retreat at Sawgrass Village, who recognized him from the surveillance footage. He was found by police at his apartment, where he was arrested while wearing the same attire as the suspect in the video. Evidence at the scene, including blood and missing kitchen knives, linked him to the crime.
During police questioning, Sagesse admitted to the stabbings, asserting that he “just killed someone and walked away.” He claimed he acted in self-defense, although he failed to provide a clear threat that would justify such a response. He has been charged with premeditated murder and attempted first-degree murder and is currently being held without bond.
