A 63-year-old woman from Ponte Vedra tragically lost her life in a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Pine Island/Stratton Road, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The incident occurred around 8:00 AM on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, when the woman was making a left turn from Pine Island Road to travel southbound on U.S. 1. During her turn, her sedan was struck on the driver’s side by an SUV traveling north on U.S. 1. Following the initial collision, her vehicle subsequently collided with a trailer being pulled by a truck that was stationary in the median.

While the woman’s family has been notified, names have yet to be released. The driver of the SUV, a 19-year-old man from St. Augustine, sustained minor injuries, while the truck driver, a 35-year-old man from Jacksonville, was unharmed. Fortunately, all occupants involved were wearing seat belts, which may have mitigated further injuries.

Emergency services, including the Florida Highway Patrol and St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, responded promptly to the scene. It is noteworthy, however, that initial reports on at least one person being in critical condition have not been confirmed with further details as additional medical assessments continue.

Traffic at the intersection was impacted due to the incident, with one vehicle resting diagonally across the southbound lane of U.S. 1. The authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

This tragic event highlights the importance of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations. While this incident is devastating, it serves as a reminder for drivers to remain vigilant and cautious, especially at busy intersections.

Overall, it’s a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the unpredictable nature of traffic incidents.
