Rich Homie Quan’s father has publicly expressed his sorrow over the rapper’s passing, sharing his feelings on social media.
Corey Lamar posted on Instagram early Friday morning, revealing that he is experiencing “unbearable pain,” following the confirmation of his son’s death by the Fulton County medical examiner. The rapper, whose real name was Dequantes Devontay Lamar, was 33 years old.
“Lord please please please help me to understand this,” Corey Lamar wrote. “To lose my son (my firstborn, my best friend). Lord please let this be a dream… Y’all pray for me and my family.” He continued to describe his grief, stating, “I feel like I’m crushed into a million pieces.”
A representative from the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed to The Times that it had been informed of the rapper’s passing by Grady Memorial Hospital, although the cause of death has not been disclosed.
News of Rich Homie Quan’s death spread rapidly on social media, leading to tributes from fellow hip-hop artists such as Playboi Carti, Boosie Badazz, and Quavo of Migos. “Never gonna forget yo smile n the way [you] talked n of course yo music,” Boosie expressed on X (formerly Twitter).
Rich Homie Quan was a notable figure in Atlanta’s hip-hop scene, known for popular tracks like “Lifestyle” and “Type of Way.” He collaborated with prominent artists, including Tyga, Yo Gotti, Fetty Wap, Lil Wayne, Meek Mill, and Nicki Minaj.
Before his death, the rapper’s girlfriend, Amber Williams, called the police after finding him unresponsive. A 911 call recording revealed her concern as she stated, “He never got up. I don’t feel a heartbeat, I don’t see him breathing. He kind of foamed at the mouth.”
Although Williams has not made a direct statement regarding her boyfriend’s death on social media, she has shared posts from friends and followers offering support and privacy on her Instagram story. One post she reshared read, “Praying for God to wrap his arms around you sis.”
The medical examiner announced on Friday that an autopsy has been conducted on the rapper, but the cause and manner of death will be determined pending laboratory studies and microscopic examination of tissue samples.
