A Palm Springs man who passed away in the hospital after an apparent stabbing had previously made appearances on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” as well as various reality shows and telenovelas.
Eduardo Xol, 58, was featured in 65 episodes of the ABC series from 2005 to 2012, according to IMDB. He was credited as a designer on the show and appeared as himself in numerous other programs during that time period. Earlier in his career, Xol was involved in telenovelas such as “Acapulco, cuerpo y alma” and “La jaula de oro.”
In a statement to The Desert Sun, Xol’s family expressed their heartbreak over his tragic death. “As his family, we know that his kindness has touched the lives of so many. We ask for that kindness returned now allowing our privacy to be respected as we process our grief. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Eduardo’s name to the Lupus Foundation of America, as he spent so much of his life in the service of others.”
The news of Xol’s passing was first reported by TMZ, which included a confirmation from his mother. Richard Perez-Feria, former editor-in-chief of People en Español, paid tribute on Instagram, describing Xol as a “talented, beautiful, passionate friend, brother, son, and partner.” He remarked on the shock of losing someone so integral to his life.
According to the Riverside County coroner, Xol died at 12:19 p.m. on Friday at Desert Regional Medical Center. Authorities reported he was injured at 5:41 a.m. on September 10, coinciding with a call made to the Palm Springs Police Department about an injured man.
Officers responded to the scene on East Arenas Road, where they found a man in an apartment with significant injuries who stated he had been stabbed but did not identify his attacker. Later, Richard Joseph Gonzales, 34, of Cathedral City, was arrested after he contacted authorities claiming he had been assaulted the night before. Initially taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder, Gonzales is now facing a request for a murder charge following Xol’s death and is being held without bail.
