Tragic Loss: High School Football Player Dies After Game Injury

A high school football player in Alabama has tragically passed away after sustaining critical injuries during a game on Friday night. Caden Tellier, a 16-year-old junior at Morgan Academy, was injured during a tackle in the third quarter of the match against Southern Academy in Selma. The school’s headmaster, Bryan Oliver, confirmed that Tellier suffered a brain injury and was transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital that same night.

The boy’s family shared the sad news of his passing on social media. In their statement, they expressed gratitude for the support they received, stating, “Our boy, Caden Tellier has met Jesus face to face. We appreciate all of your prayers, and we covet them for the hard days ahead.” They also highlighted his kindness and the lasting impact he had on those around him, noting that his legacy will continue through the lives he can help save.

Michael McClendon, Executive Director of the Alabama Independent School Association, mentioned that it is believed Caden suffered a ruptured blood vessel in his brain during what was described as a routine play. He added that the school is still working to gather more details about the incident and that further information regarding his injury may take time to obtain.

Oliver also shared heartfelt sentiments on the school’s Facebook page, describing Tellier as a “shining light” in the school community. “There are no words to describe how we feel as a school community and family,” he wrote. “Caden will never be forgotten for who he was and what he means to Morgan Academy.”

In response to this tragic incident, the school has announced the cancellation of all sports activities for the upcoming week, including a scheduled football game against Wilcox Academy.
