Former Clemson wide receiver Diondre Overton has passed away, as announced by the school on Saturday afternoon. He was 26 years old, and the cause of death has not been disclosed.
Overton joined Clemson in 2016 as a four-star recruit from Page High School in Greensboro, North Carolina. During his four years with the Tigers from 2016 to 2019, he recorded 52 receptions for 777 yards and seven touchdowns, playing a crucial role as a reserve on the team during their national championship victories in 2016 and 2018. He earned the title of permanent team captain in his senior year.
In a post on X, the Clemson Football program expressed their condolences: “Clemson Football and the entire Clemson Family mourn the passing of Clemson alumnus Diondre Overton. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
Overton’s former teammates shared their grief on social media. Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins expressed his sorrow on Instagram, stating, “Brotha I miss you already man. I love you 5L….I’m hurting bad bout this right now. Rest Easy Big Play.”
Throughout his professional career, Overton played in the CFL, the European League of Football, and the UFL, and he was recently selected by the Memphis Showboats in the UFL dispersal draft.
