Tragic Loss: Clemson Football Community Mourns Former Star Diondre Overton

Diondre Overton, a former Clemson football receiver and a native of North Carolina, has passed away at the age of 26. Clemson University announced his death on Saturday, stating that they were notified and reached out to law enforcement in Greensboro, North Carolina, for confirmation.

Details surrounding Overton’s death have not been disclosed. In a tribute posted on X, Clemson Football expressed their condolences, saying, “Clemson Football and the entire Clemson Family mourn the passing of Clemson alumnus Diondre Overton. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Before a game against Appalachian State, Coach Dabo Swinney acknowledged Overton by touching his captain’s plaque. Additionally, a moment of recognition was held for Overton, where Clemson players Trent Pearman and Rob Billings, both wearing No. 14, led the team down the hill in his honor, as Overton was also a No. 14 player.

Overton played for Clemson from 2016 to 2019, recording 52 receptions for 777 yards and seven touchdowns over 51 games. His standout season came in 2019, where he achieved career highs with 22 receptions, 352 yards, and three touchdowns in a single game against Boston College, totaling 119 yards on three catches, with all being touchdowns.

After his college career, Overton continued to play professionally in the USFL during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
