A Canadian tourist’s body has tragically been found washed ashore in the Dominican Republic. Dorian Christian MacDonald, who was vacationing alone, was last seen taking a beach walk around 2 a.m. on June 20. His body was discovered approximately two hours later at about 4:15 a.m.

Global Affairs Canada has confirmed they are aware of the situation and are liaising with local authorities to assist MacDonald’s family, though further details cannot be disclosed due to privacy concerns. First responders were alerted to the scene after receiving a call, leading to the recovery of MacDonald’s body.

A friend of MacDonald, Tara McKenzie, described the incident as a “drowning accident” on a GoFundMe page established to help cover funeral expenses and costs associated with repatriating his body back to Canada. McKenzie emphasized the emotional and financial challenges involved, estimating that the total costs may reach between $10,000 and $20,000.

MacDonald is remembered fondly by his friends and family. McKenzie portrayed him as a vibrant individual who deeply impacted everyone he met, describing him as someone who brought joy and laughter into their lives. The GoFundMe page has already surpassed its goal, raising over $26,000 of the targeted $29,000, reflecting the heartfelt support from the community for MacDonald’s family during this difficult time.

This tragic event highlights the importance of safety while traveling, especially when engaging in activities such as beach walks alone. MacDonald’s story resonates with many, reminding us of the bonds we share and the lasting impressions we leave on others.
