Tragic Loss: Atlanta’s Own Rich Homie Quan Passes Away at 33

Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan, who gained fame in 2013, has died in Georgia, according to authorities. The Fulton County Medical Examiner announced that Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta informed them of the rapper’s passing on Thursday. He was 33 years old at the time of his death.

Details regarding the cause and manner of his death have not yet been disclosed, as an autopsy has been scheduled for Friday.

Born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, Rich Homie Quan enjoyed significant success with his hit song “Type of Way” over a decade ago, and he followed it up with “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” in 2015.

Rapper Boosie Badazz shared a tribute on social media, expressing his sorrow and reminiscing about their time together. He noted that they were collaborating before Quan’s untimely passing.

Rich Homie Quan’s family and management team have not commented on the news as of Thursday afternoon.

Mark Dantonio, the former head football coach at Michigan State University, posted a photo on X of himself with Rich Homie Quan celebrating after his team’s Rose Bowl victory on January 1, 2014. Dantonio mentioned that “Type of Way” became the team’s anthem for that season, with players and coaches celebrating to the hit song after their win against Stanford University. He concluded his post with a tribute to the rapper.

In 2014, Rich Homie Quan was recognized in XXL’s inaugural Freshman Class, alongside notable artists like Chance the Rapper and Ty Dolla $ign. Throughout his career, he received nominations for several BET and BET Hip Hop Awards, including for best new artist and the people’s champ award.

Quan also worked with various prominent figures in the music industry, including 2 Chainz, Young Thug, Gucci Mane, and Trinidad James.
