FORT CAMPBELL, KY – The 101st Airborne Division has released the identity of the soldier who tragically lost his life in an AH-64 Apache helicopter training accident at Fort Campbell on Wednesday. Chief Warrant Officer 2 Dustin K. Wright, a 40-year-old pilot attached to the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services at 6:45 p.m.
Alongside Wright, another pilot was involved in the incident and sustained minor injuries. This individual was promptly taken to the Blanchfield Army Community Hospital and was discharged that same evening.
Col. Tyler Partridge, commander of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, expressed profound sorrow over Wright’s passing, stating, “The entire 101st Combat Aviation Brigade grieves the loss of CW2 Dustin Wright. A former infantryman, Dustin cherished every opportunity to be outside and support ground troops. He did so with strength and honor. We will forever cherish the memories of his service, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.”
Wright’s military career began in 2010, and he arrived at Fort Campbell in May of 2022. Throughout his service, he earned multiple accolades, including the Air Medal with “C” Device, the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, and several others, showcasing his dedication and skill in both aviation and infantry roles.
The incident is currently under investigation, as the community reflects on the loss of a valued member and honors his commitment to service.
This tragic event highlights the risks associated with military training and serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those in uniform. Our thoughts remain with Wright’s family, friends, and fellow soldiers during this difficult time.
