A tragic shooting occurred near Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco on Wednesday afternoon, leading to the death of a man in his vehicle. The incident took place around 1:10 PM at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and North Point Street. Eyewitness Jeremy Yi, visiting from New York City, described seeing the victim in distress, visibly shaken as he drove only two blocks after being shot before coming to a stop.
Upon police arrival, the victim was found suffering from numerous gunshot wounds in his car located at Leavenworth and Beach streets, where he was declared dead at the scene. Following the incident, a male suspect turned himself in to authorities at Central Station in Chinatown, approximately nine blocks from the shooting site, and reportedly confessed to the crime.
Surveillance footage obtained by ABC 7 showed the suspect armed with an assault-style rifle, targeting the victim’s car from the street. According to reports, at least four bullet casings were recovered from the crime scene.
Mayor Daniel Lurie praised the efforts of the San Francisco Police Department, noting their swift response in apprehending the suspect. “We won’t tolerate any violence of that sort,” he stated, reaffirming that incidents like this, although unfortunate, are part of the challenges faced by larger cities. He expressed pride in the timely actions of the police.
This incident marks San Francisco’s ninth homicide of the year, reflecting ongoing concerns about gun violence in urban areas. Despite the tragedy, the quick response from law enforcement highlights their commitment to public safety.
