Kyren Lacy, a promising wide receiver prospect for the upcoming NFL draft, is currently wanted for negligent homicide following a tragic crash in Louisiana last month. The Louisiana State Police announced on Friday that an arrest warrant has been issued for the 24-year-old Thibodaux resident in connection with a fatal incident that occurred on December 17.
Lacy, who recently completed his college football career at Louisiana State University, is accused of driving a 2023 Dodge Charger recklessly while passing multiple vehicles at high speeds in a designated No-Passing Zone on Louisiana Highway 20. This reckless maneuver allegedly caused the driver of a 2017 Kia Cadenza to lose control in an attempt to avert a collision, leading to a head-on crash with a 2017 Kia Sorento. Tragically, a passenger in the Kia Sorento, identified as 78-year-old Herman Hall, succumbed to his injuries after being hospitalized.
Authorities reported that Lacy fled the scene without offering assistance, notifying emergency services, or acknowledging his involvement in the crash. In addition to negligent homicide, he faces charges of felony hit and run and reckless operation of a vehicle.
State police indicated they are in ongoing discussions with Lacy and his legal representation regarding his surrender. Lacy’s agent, Rocky Arceneaux, stated that the athlete is cooperating with law enforcement and expressed confidence that the truth would emerge through a thorough investigation. Arceneaux emphasized the seriousness with which they are treating the case and their commitment to a responsible resolution.
Before the incident, Lacy was poised to make a significant impact in the NFL, having concluded his season with impressive stats, including 58 receptions for 866 yards and nine touchdowns.
