A tragic incident occurred on Monday night near the entrance of Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, where a man was struck and killed by a car. Gurnee police reported that they received a call around 10 p.m. regarding a pedestrian involved in the accident on Washington Street, near Route 21. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive man in the eastbound lanes.
Authorities confirmed that the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial investigations indicated that he had been walking in the eastbound lanes when he was hit by a vehicle also traveling in that direction. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
To assist with the situation, the Major Crash Assistance Team was summoned, leading to a temporary closure of Washington Street for approximately five hours while police conducted their investigation. As of Tuesday afternoon, the incident is still under active investigation, and authorities have withheld the victim’s identity pending family notification.
