A shooting outside the Michigan State Fair in Novi on Saturday evening has left one teenager dead and another injured. The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. in a parking lot near Grand River Avenue, southwest of the Suburban Collection Showplace, following reports of gunfire.
Authorities reported that two 14-year-old boys were shot in the parking lot. As of now, no suspects are in custody, but law enforcement believes the shooting was targeted. Details regarding the suspect have not been disclosed.
Investigators revealed that the two boys had taken an Uber from Detroit to Farmington Hills, and then another Uber to the fair with friends. The shooting is thought to have stemmed from a dispute involving the teens that had been ongoing throughout the week.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with many hearing the shots and fleeing the area. “We’re all trying to run, duck off somewhere,” one witness recounted.
The fair, hosted at the Suburban Collection Showplace, remains open, with police stating there is no further threat to the community. The organizers of the Michigan State Fair released a statement expressing condolences for the young victim and acknowledging the tragic event as a result of an altercation.
