A tragic incident unfolded in Las Vegas when a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump Hotel, resulting in minor injuries to seven bystanders. The driver has been identified as Matthew Alan Livelsberger, a 37-year-old active-duty US special forces soldier from Colorado Springs, Colorado. Authorities reported that Livelsberger took his own life with a gunshot wound before the explosion occurred.
On New Year’s Day, Livelsberger drove the rented Cybertruck from over 800 miles away, arriving just a few hours before the blast. The police noted that the vehicle, filled with fuel canisters and firework mortars, began to smoke and subsequently detonated while parked near the hotel’s entrance. Fortunately, the design of the Cybertruck helped contain the explosion, preventing more severe damage, particularly to the hotel’s glass doors and windows.
Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill stated that investigators found Livelsberger’s military ID, a passport, two semi-automatic pistols, and additional personal items inside the burnt vehicle. The sheriff emphasized that they are still trying to understand the motives behind this incident, although he characterized it as a suicide followed by an explosion.
Interestingly, the sheriff pointed out parallels between Livelsberger’s actions and another attack that occurred in New Orleans on the same day. Both suspects had ties to Fort Bragg and had served in Afghanistan. However, McMahill clarified that there is no definitive connection between the two cases.
