A tragic boating accident on Lake Tahoe on June 21 claimed the lives of eight individuals, including DoorDash executive Joshua Pickles, who was celebrating his mother’s birthday with family and friends. The incident occurred when the 27-foot gold Chris-Craft boat capsized near D.L. Bliss State Park.
Joshua, along with his parents, Terry Pickles, 73, and Paula Bozinovich, 71, were among those who lost their lives in the accident. Two people survived the mishap, as reported by the U.S. Coast Guard. Family spokesperson Sam Singer shared that the boat, owned by Joshua and Terry for less than a year, had only been used a handful of times. The group was enjoying the day in hopes of celebrating Paula’s special day when the unexpected incident occurred.
Joshua’s wife, Jordan Sugar-Carlsgaard, remained at home caring for their 7-month-old daughter during the outing. In a heartfelt statement, she expressed her deep sorrow, stating, “No words can express the pain and anguish we feel knowing their lives were lost during what was meant to be a joyful time on the lake.”
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed the identities of the deceased. They include 71-year-old Timothy O’Leary from Auburn, California, and three New Yorkers: Theresa Giullari, 66, and James Guck, 69, both from Honeoye, as well as Stephen Lindsay, 63, from Springwater.
Ravi Inukonda, DoorDash’s CFO, described Joshua as a valued team member whose vibrant spirit had a positive impact on those around him. Inukonda lamented, “The loss of Josh is immeasurable. We miss him deeply and will carry his memory with us always.”
