Tragedy Strikes: Four Dead in Georgia High School Shooting

A tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, has resulted in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to nine others. Among the victims were students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, as well as teachers Christina Irimie and Richard Aspinwall. The suspect, a 14-year-old boy named Colt Gray, has been taken into custody and will face adult charges.

Mason Schermerhorn, one of the deceased students, had just recently begun attending Apalachee High School. Friends of his family described him as a cheerful person who loved reading, playing video games, and visiting Walt Disney World. Doug Kilburn shared that Schermerhorn maintained an “upbeat attitude about everything,” while family friend Louis Briscoe expressed the deep sorrow felt by those close to him, stating, “Nobody should have to go through this type of pain.”

Christian Angulo, the other 14-year-old victim, was remembered by his sister, Lisette Angulo, who described him as “a very good kid” who was caring and loved by many. She expressed her heartbreak on a GoFundMe page created to support his funeral expenses and shared that schoolmates remembered him for his humor and laid-back demeanor. A close friend, who had known Angulo since middle school, described his shock upon learning of the incident.

Christina Irimie, a 53-year-old math teacher at the school, was recognized for her patience and compassion by her students. Richard Aspinwall, also a math teacher, was 39 years old and served as the school’s American football defensive coordinator. He has been honored by former students and colleagues, with many expressing their condolences and sharing memories of his kindness and dedication.

In addition to the four fatalities, a total of nine people were injured in the shooting, including eight students and a teacher named David Phenix, who plays a role in curriculum assistance. Phenix’s daughter reported that he required surgery after being shot in the hip but is expected to recover. Details regarding the other injured students remain limited, but authorities have stated that all are anticipated to heal.
