Marco Angulo, a promising young football player for FC Cincinnati and the Ecuador national team, has tragically passed away at the age of 22 due to injuries sustained in a car accident. This devastating incident occurred on October 7, when Angulo was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed into a metal barrier along the Rumiñahui highway, southeast of Quito. Alongside Angulo, his former youth teammate Roberto Cabezas lost his life in the crash.
Initially admitted to the hospital with serious head trauma and a lung contusion, Angulo was placed in an artificial coma but ultimately succumbed to his injuries on Monday night, as reported by El Universo.
Angulo began his career with Independiente de Valle in Ecuador before joining FC Cincinnati in December 2022. While on loan to L.D.U. Quito, he played an integral role in their successes, contributing to the team’s recent achievements in the Ecuadorian league. During his time with Cincinnati, Angulo participated in 24 matches and helped secure the Supporters’ Shield in 2023.
Ecuador’s Football Association expressed its sorrow, praising Angulo’s talent, dedication, and the deep impact he left on those around him. “Marco was not only an outstanding player but a great teammate,” they stated, reflecting the profound loss felt by his peers.
FC Cincinnati and Major League Soccer also expressed their condolences, highlighting Angulo’s vibrant personality and the positive light he brought into the lives of those within the club and the broader soccer community. They shared heartfelt messages of collective grief, noting Angulo’s role as a loving husband, father, and friend.
While the loss of Marco Angulo is a significant tragedy, it is essential to remember his contributions to the sport and the love he shared with his family and teammates. His short but impactful career serves as a reminder of the fleeting nature of life and the importance of cherishing each moment.
As the soccer community mourns, there is hope that his legacy will inspire others to pursue their dreams passionately and remember the joy he brought into the world.
