Two men tragically died during the recent Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) weekend at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Clark County Coroner’s office has identified the individuals as 39-year-old Opkar Mahal from North Las Vegas and 33-year-old Azmi Atassi from Flagstaff, Arizona.
Mahal reportedly experienced a medical emergency while attending the festival and was pronounced dead at the University Medical Center (UMC). Atassi was found deceased in his hotel room at the Hilton Grand Vacations Club, where he was believed to be staying for the music event. As of Tuesday afternoon, official causes of death remain under investigation, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has indicated that they will review the circumstances surrounding their deaths in consultation with the coroner’s office.
EDC is known for attracting tens of thousands of festival-goers to Southern Nevada each year. In prior years, incidents at the festival have often involved drug overdoses. However, there have also been reports of fatalities linked to other causes such as car accidents, falls, and instances of overheating or dehydration.
