The body of Mary Kate Jacobe, a young girl from Houston who went missing during the devastating floods in the Hill Country over the July Fourth weekend, has been discovered, as confirmed by officials on Tuesday. Her death is a tragic addition to the toll of this historical disaster, which has seriously impacted communities throughout Texas.

Mary Kate’s family expressed their profound grief in a touching statement, describing her as a “precious angel baby” who brought light and joy to their lives. They emphasized her vibrant spirit, noting, “She was tiny but mighty, full of love and joy with a smile that melted your heart.” The family is profoundly affected by their loss but extended their sympathies to others impacted by the flooding, highlighting a communal bond through shared grief.

As the search continues in the Hill Country, officials report that 161 individuals remain unaccounted for in Kerr County, where the floods have claimed more than 100 lives. The death toll has tragically reached 95, including 59 adults and 36 children, with several victims yet to be identified. Authorities have warned that more bodies could emerge from the heaps of debris that the floods left in their wake.

Camp Mystic, a century-old summer camp for girls, confirmed that the flooding has resulted in the deaths of at least 27 campers and counselors, with six still missing.

This heartbreaking situation showcases the resilience of communities in times of unimaginable sorrow. As families come together to support one another and as search efforts continue, there remains a glimmer of hope that the strength and love shared among those affected will nurture healing and recovery in the days to come.
