The Fiji Police Force has issued a public advisory for the upcoming Saturday, 15 November 2025, regarding an extensive mock search and rescue exercise scheduled to take place in Suva Harbour. Residents and business owners in Suva and the central business district are encouraged to expect heightened emergency activity as multiple agencies join forces for this vital training exercise designed to enhance response capabilities during maritime emergencies.
Running from 8 AM to 1 PM, the drill will see coordinated efforts from law enforcement and emergency services along with maritime stakeholders, aimed at testing and improving inter-agency response during large-scale incidents on the water. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Kasiano Vusonilawe, emphasized that this exercise is part of ongoing national preparedness initiatives aimed at strengthening real-time coordination among first responders.
“We want the public to be aware of increased movement of emergency and law enforcement vehicles throughout the morning. We urge everyone not to panic, as these operations are part of a planned exercise,” ACP Vusonilawe stated. Given that Saturday is also a peak shopping day, the Fiji Police Force has announced that traffic officers will be deployed across key routes to facilitate vehicle flow and minimize disruptions.
The mock search and rescue drill is part of a broader commitment by the government and emergency agencies to ensure readiness, improve communication systems, and maintain efficient response to maritime emergencies. Residents and business owners are advised to remain observant of the exercise and follow any instructions from on-duty officers.
This initiative highlights the Fiji Police Force’s dedication to public safety and community engagement, reinforcing a proactive approach that will ultimately benefit everyone as the festive season approaches. By prioritizing preparation and responsiveness, authorities are working together to ensure a secure environment for both residents and visitors.
