Ready-to-eat chicken fried rice available at Trader Joe’s locations nationwide is being recalled over concerns of possible glass contamination. The recall was announced following customer complaints, as detailed in a notice from the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

Ajinomoto Foods North America, the Oregon-based manufacturer behind the product, informed the FSIS after receiving reports from four customers who discovered glass fragments in their orders. Fortunately, there have been no confirmed injuries associated with the incidents. In light of the potential hazard, the FSIS has urged consumers to refrain from eating the affected products, emphasizing the importance of disposing of or returning the items to retailers.

While the FSIS notice mentioned the recall, it did not specify the total weight or quantity of the fried rice affected. Trader Joe’s was contacted for more details but has yet to respond.

Consumers can identify the recalled fried rice by its green 20-ounce plastic packaging, which labels the product as “Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice” featuring stir-fried rice, vegetables, dark chicken meat, and eggs. The affected packages display “best if used by” dates ranging from September 8, 2026, to November 17, 2026.

Ajinomoto Foods North America has made contact options available for customers who may have questions: they can reach the company at 855-742-5011 or via email at customercare@ajinomotofoods.com. Additionally, consumers can call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854 for food safety inquiries or utilize the Electronic Consumer Complaint Monitoring System for reporting issues with meat, poultry, or egg products.

This recall underscores the importance of food safety and consumer vigilance. As always, it is prudent for shoppers to be aware of product recalls to ensure their safety and well-being.
