A tornado risk was heightened on Wednesday afternoon, but updates from the St. Louis region indicate an easing of the situation. The tornado watch, initially issued for various areas in Missouri and Illinois, has been canceled for all communities in the St. Louis region. Only a few counties in Illinois, including Jefferson, Marion, Fayette, and Montgomery, were under the watch until it was lifted around 2 p.m.

Earlier in the day, a tornado warning had been issued for the northern part of the St. Louis region until 11:30 a.m., affecting parts of Illinois’ Pike County. A tornado has been confirmed in northwestern Calhoun County, causing damage, but the earlier warnings in other areas have since been revoked.

Despite the cancellation of the tornado watch, the potential for severe storms remains through the evening. The 5 On Your Side Weather Impact team issued a Weather Impact Alert valid until 10 p.m., with warnings of strong winds and hail. The Storm Prediction Center designated much of the area at a slight to enhanced risk for severe weather on a scale of 1 to 5.

Residents are encouraged to take necessary precautions as they prepare for the possibility of intense thunderstorms. While the region has seen heightened storm activity this season, experts believe that not everyone will experience severe weather. The conditions do not seem to support the levels of intensity seen in previous storms this spring, offering a glimmer of optimism amidst the ongoing storm season.

This weather event highlights the importance of staying informed and prepared, as conditions can change rapidly. The community remains resilient, and with appropriate precautions, residents can face the challenges of severe weather season with confidence.
