A slight chance of tornado activity exists in the western regions of the state this afternoon, as per National Weather Service meteorologist Emily McMinn. She emphasized that while there is a potential for severe weather, it is not expected to be widespread.

The areas of western Massachusetts and Connecticut are likely to face severe weather between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. today, with heavy rainfall accumulations predicted to reach up to an inch. Residents should prepare for wind gusts that could range between 45 to 65 miles per hour, and the possibility of hail.

Forecasts indicate that these storms will advance eastward throughout Central and Eastern Massachusetts, although the intensity of the storms is expected to diminish as they progress. McMinn noted that Worcester is predicted to experience some of the more significant impacts later in the evening.

For the earlier part of the day, specifically from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., skies in Western Massachusetts should clear up, leading to increased temperatures in the region and across Central and Eastern Massachusetts. By 9 a.m., cities like Boston, Springfield, and Worcester are projected to have morning temperatures in the high 60s to low 70s, climbing to around 72 to 73 degrees. In Pittsfield, temperatures might even hit 75 degrees by noon.

During that same period, while southeastern areas of the state are likely to see some light rain and possibly a few rumbles of thunder, nothing severe is anticipated. The eastern region can also expect light showers, but again, no significant weather is predicted.

Later in the day, after sunset around 8 p.m., another storm system is forecasted to move through the state, bringing moderate rain to the western region. However, as it approaches Worcester, the severity of the system is anticipated to decrease.

Looking ahead to Sunday, drier and cooler conditions should prevail across the state, with temperatures west of Worcester expected in the mid-60s, while other regions will likely be in the high 60s to low 70s.

This timely weather update serves as a reminder for residents to stay informed and prepared as the weather evolves throughout the day.
