An 18-year-old named Malachi Chaney is currently in intensive care following a tornado that devastated his family’s home in Henry County, Georgia. The tornado not only damaged their residence but also caused significant injuries to Malachi. His father, Tray Chaney, known for his role as Malik “Poot” Carr on the acclaimed series “The Wire,” also sustained injuries during the incident and is by his son’s side in the hospital.

Malachi has suffered several broken ribs and a fractured facial bone. Tray expressed his deep concern for his son’s wellbeing, stating, “I wish it was me that was in the ICU rather than him. I don’t want him experiencing no pain.” He described the traumatic moments during the tornado on social media, revealing that his son was thrown about 300 feet from their home. Tray himself was knocked unconscious and, upon regaining consciousness, frantically searched for Malachi, finding him in a wooded area behind where their home once stood.

In his heartfelt message to the community, Tray urged everyone to cherish life and show affection to their loved ones, emphasizing, “Life just changed for me & mine. We’ll never be the same.”

As the community grapples with the aftermath of the tornado, the National Weather Service plans to conduct surveys to assess the damage. Their initial analysis indicates that the tornado’s path was less than half a mile from an EF-0 tornado that struck the area earlier this year.

This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the unpredictable nature of severe weather and the importance of family and community support during difficult times. Though the future may seem uncertain for the Chaney family, their resilience and the outpouring of support from neighbors and loved ones provide a glimmer of hope for recovery and healing.
