Despite retiring from competitive skating over 20 years ago, Tony Hawk remains a highly visible figure in both the skateboarding and entertainment worlds. Video game enthusiasts can find him in the long-running “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater” series, while TV viewers might see him endorsing Qunol’s turmeric gummies. Podcast listeners may tune into his weekly show “Hawk v. Wolf” alongside Jason Ellis. Additionally, Hawk is actively involved with the Skatepark Project, aimed at funding skate parks in underserved communities. This summer, he made a notable appearance during the skateboarding finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, supporting Team USA’s Tom Schaar, who earned a silver medal.
Hawk, who resides in San Diego but visits Los Angeles frequently, shared his ideal Sunday in Southern California. He highlighted some iconic spots for skaters who may come to Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympics, including the famous handrail at Hollywood High School and the now non-skateable Sunset Car Wash, known for a daring stunt by skaters many years ago.
In a recent interview, Hawk laid out a perfect Sunday itinerary:
7 a.m.: Depart from North County to hit the Venice/Santa Monica area by 8:30, when traffic is lighter.
8:30 a.m.: Start the day with a visit to Holey Grail Donuts in Santa Monica for their staple glaze doughnut and coffee.
9 a.m.: Head to the Venice Beach Skate Park to enjoy skating in the early hours before the crowd builds up.
11 a.m.: Drop by the Santa Monica Pier for some nostalgic fun, recalling a family trip when his son recognized landmarks from Hawk’s video game.
Noon: Lunch at Burger She Wrote in Venice for a double smash burger and fries, a place invested in by Hawk.
3 p.m.: Visit LACMA for its exhibitions or explore the Hollywood Forever cemetery, appreciating its beauty and cultural events.
4:30 p.m.: Check in at his son Miles’ skate shop, Sapasi, in West Hollywood, while enjoying nearby shopping options.
6 p.m.: Dinner at Matsuhisa for omakase or spaghetti Bolognese at the Chateau Marmont, depending on his mood.
9:30 p.m.: Wind down with his wife, watching shows like “Last Week Tonight” or “House of the Dragon,” while enjoying a glass of Hakushu 12-Year-Old whiskey.
10 p.m.: Aim for an early bedtime to prepare for the week ahead, especially with a newly licensed daughter needing morning motivation.
