This week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced two ongoing recalls of fresh tomatoes over concerns of potential salmonella contamination.

The first recall involves products from Williams Farms Repack LLC, which was reported on May 2, 2025. The tomatoes affected are labeled under both the Williams Farms Repack and H&C Farms brands. These tomatoes were sold to wholesalers between April 23 and April 28, 2025, and distributed in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The second recall comes from Ray & Mascari Inc., based in Indianapolis, also announced on May 2, 2025, and made public on May 3. This recall specifically concerns 4-packs of vine-ripened tomatoes sold under the Ray & Mascari brand. These tomatoes were distributed to Gordon Food Service Stores across 11 states, including Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

Both recalls are linked to Hanshaw & Capling Farms (H&C Farms) located in Immokalee, Florida. Hanshaw & Capling Farms identified potential salmonella in its facility, prompting the recalls. Williams Farms Repack was informed about the possible contamination on April 29, leading to its recall.

Consumers can identify the recalled tomatoes from Williams Farms Repack, which were sold in various packaging sizes, including 4×5 2-layer boxes, 60-count 2-layer boxes, and 3-count trays under the Williams Farms Repack label, as well as 5×6 and 6×6 25-pound boxes under the H&C Farms label. Detailed photographs of the recalled packaging are available on the FDA website.

Public health officials urge consumers who may have purchased any of the recalled products to return them to stores or dispose of them safely. These proactive recall actions are essential for ensuring public safety and preventing illness. It is crucial for consumers to remain vigilant and informed about food recalls to minimize health risks.
