Tom Selleck Reacts to “Blue Bloods” Cancellation: A Bitter Goodbye

Tom Selleck has voiced his disappointment regarding the cancellation of “Blue Bloods,” which has been a staple for 14 years. The actor, now 79, shared his feelings in an interview with TV Insider, stating, “I’m kind of frustrated. During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for ‘Blue Bloods’ but about it still being wildly successful.”

Selleck, who has played Commissioner Frank Reagan since the show’s debut in 2010, highlighted its impressive ranking, noting it was listed ninth out of the Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024. He expressed disbelief at the notion that a show could be programmed in a poor time slot and still dominate ratings as “Blue Bloods” has for nearly a decade and a half.

“My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go,” he conceded. “So, how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out,” he added, acknowledging the emotional toll of concluding the series.

As “Blue Bloods” prepares to air its final eight episodes in December, Selleck reflected on the bittersweet nature of the show’s ending, recalling his routine as he transitioned from filming to everyday life. He indicated that he might need time to fully absorb the conclusion of the beloved series.

In a separate conversation, Selleck expressed concerns over his financial future, revealing that he may have to part with his 63-acre ranch in California if he can no longer maintain his income from acting. He humorously noted the precarious nature of relying on his career for his lifestyle, stating, “If I stopped working, yeah. Am I set for life? Yeah, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!”

Selleck has enjoyed a long and successful career since his early roles in the late 1960s, securing his status as a household name. He has been married to Jillie Mack since 1987 and has two children from his previous marriage to Jacqueline Ray.
