Tom Cruise Makes Bold Entrance at Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony
Hollywood actor Tom Cruise created a sensational moment during the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics on Sunday night by abseiling from the roof of the Stade de France. The crowd erupted in excitement as the star of the Mission: Impossible franchise, clad in a leather jacket and gloves, descended into the stadium while musician H.E.R. played guitar. As part of a pre-recorded segment, Cruise traveled through iconic Paris locales and made his way to Los Angeles, where he proudly displayed the Olympic colors at the Hollywood sign to signify the upcoming 2028 Games.
During the ceremony, International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach hailed the Paris Games as “sensational.” He commended the athletes for their remarkable performances, highlighting their ability to foster a spirit of unity despite global conflicts. “You created a culture of peace that inspired us all and billions around the world. Thank you for making us dream and believe in a better world,” he stated.
Cruise’s stunning arrival coincided with H.E.R.’s spirited rendition of the US national anthem, after which he received the Olympic flag from American gymnast Simone Biles. The excitement continued as he sped away on a motorbike. The accompanying footage of his journey to Los Angeles featured music by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who later performed their hit “Can’t Stop” on a beach. Other performances included Billie Eilish and Snoop Dogg, who took the stage alongside Dr. Dre. The US topped the medals table, culminating the Games with a victory in the women’s basketball final.
Cruise, known for his daring stunts in films, has previously scaled the Burj Khalifa and hung from a plane. The artistic director of the ceremony, Thomas Jolly, added to the cinematic experience with a performance that included dancers rolling five giant rings to assemble the Olympic logo, which was followed by an energetic set from French band Phoenix.
Speculation about Cruise’s appearance had circulated prior to the ceremony, with sightings of the actor cheering for the American team throughout the Olympics. “It’s awesome,” he remarked about the event, praising the incredible talent on display. Jolly had previously coordinated a grand opening ceremony featuring a boat parade along the River Seine and a performance by Céline Dion.
