The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) recently updated Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and the Cabinet on significant developments, challenges, and strategic initiatives concerning land management and service delivery in Fiji. Led by Chief Executive Officer Solomone Nata, the briefing included insights from the Board’s Executive Management and Senior Managers regarding operational highlights and ongoing legal challenges that impact the TLTB’s mission.
Key topics discussed included land reversion processes, Crown Grant and Native Grant claims, and efforts to resolve historical land issues. A major focus was on new business initiatives aimed at enhancing revenue generation for the benefit of landowners.
The meeting also addressed proposed amendments to the iTaukei Land Trust Act and the Agricultural Landlord and Tenant Act (ALTA), both aimed at modernizing the legislative framework to better reflect present-day situations. Prime Minister Rabuka acknowledged the TLTB’s ongoing efforts and emphasized the Board’s moral obligation to serve all Fijians effectively.
This dialogue aligns with previous discussions at the State House, where President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu praised the TLTB for its leadership and commitment to improving land services. This illustrates a collective commitment among officials to enhance governance, transparency, and support for iTaukei landowners.
In addition, the TLTB has rolled out initiatives aimed at sustainable growth, including a robust budget for 2025, which totals $28.15 million—a 7% increase from the prior year. These resources are designed to empower landowners and foster business development, aligning with national development objectives.
The updates and initiatives from the TLTB reflect a proactive stance in addressing current challenges while opening doors for future opportunities that can enhance the livelihoods of iTaukei landowners. This collaboration between government and land trust officials signifies a promising path forward for the iTaukei community as they pursue sustainable development and economic empowerment.
