Ratu Aca Rayawa, the chairman of the governance, audit, and risk committee of the iTaukei Lands Trust Board (TLTB), has come forward to defend CEO Solomone Nata amid a wave of criticism on social media. The controversy was sparked by allegations from former Fiji citizen Vilisi Nadaku, who accused Nata and the board of corruption.

In a strong rebuttal, Mr. Rayawa categorically denied the claims, calling them false and defamatory. He specifically addressed the concerns regarding the board’s management of retirement benefits for former employees, stating, “This allegation is simply untrue and libellous.”

Rayawa explained that TLTB’s policies on staff benefits are based on resolutions that have been unanimously approved by the full board, in line with Section 3 of the iTaukei Land Trust Act. He clarified that the two former employees referenced in the allegations, along with a third individual, were indeed eligible for retirement benefits. However, their claims were denied following the established policies.

The chairman asserted that the board strives for fairness and justice, underscoring that TLTB will not support Nadaku’s claims, which contradict the organization’s official guidelines. This defense signifies the board’s dedication to maintaining integrity during a challenging time and highlights a commitment to transparency in governance.
