Corey Parker has expressed concerns about the effectiveness of Des Hasler’s leadership at the Gold Coast Titans, indicating that the current situation is untenable. Following a disappointing 10th loss of the season against the Eels, the Titans find themselves at the bottom of the NRL ladder after Round 16.
Hasler, a veteran coach who took over in 2024, led the team to a 14th-place finish and has faced mounting scrutiny regarding his future. Parker highlighted the paradox of the Titans’ decision to terminate previous coach Justin Holbrook when he was in 9th place last season, suggesting that a similar outcome may be inevitable for Hasler unless immediate improvements are seen.
“Des Hasler is a well-respected figure, but the current experiment is not proving successful,” Parker remarked during a segment on SEN. He contrasted Hasler’s predicament with Holbrook, emphasizing that the Titans are currently experiencing significant turmoil.
While Hasler is under contract until the end of 2026, reports from earlier in the year indicated he could be at risk if the team does not secure a position in the top eight this season. Hasler himself dismissed rumors about his job security, calling them mere “whispers.”
Parker expressed further concern about the implications of the board’s recent statements assuring Hasler’s safety, noting that such declarations often signal increased pressure on a coach’s position. He touched on the potential need for roster changes to rejuvenate the squad, acknowledging that the team is currently in a difficult situation.
As the Titans navigate this turbulent period, both the management and fans will be keenly observing how the remainder of the season unfolds, hoping for a revival that brings tangible progress.
