The Tennessee Titans are continuing to reshape their roster as they announced on Monday that they have traded slot cornerback Roger McCreary to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a conditional pick swap. The Titans will receive a fifth-round pick while the Rams will obtain a sixth-round pick in the deal.
McCreary has made notable contributions this season, tallying 33 tackles, one sack, two passes defended, and one interception in just eight games. Originally selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft from Auburn, he quickly established himself as a solid player and was considered the Titans’ best cornerback. However, with his rookie contract nearing its end and ongoing discussions for a long-term extension, it appears the Titans’ front office has different plans for their secondary.
Throughout his NFL career, McCreary has participated in 55 games, amassing a total of 253 tackles, 17 passes defensed, and three interceptions. The timing of this trade reflects a strategic shift for the Titans as they assess their future roster needs.
On the Rams’ side, this acquisition comes at a critical moment as they seek to strengthen their defense following the injury of cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon, who is currently on injured reserve. The addition of McCreary may provide them with the impact player they are looking for, particularly at a time when Emmanuel Forbes Jr. and Darious Williams have seen increased roles in recent weeks.
This trade marks the second time in just two months that the Titans have parted ways with a cornerback, having previously sent Jarvis Brownlee Jr. and a seventh-round pick to the New York Jets for a sixth-round selection. With L’Jarius Sneed also on injured reserve, Tennessee’s defensive backfield is under significant pressure, placing a heavier load on Darrell Baker Jr., Jalyn Armour-Davis, Samuel Womack III, and rookie Marcus Harris.
As the Titans look to rebuild and transition, this move signals their intent to invest in new talent while also navigating the challenges of injuries and roster depth. The ongoing adjustment in the team’s defensive strategy could lead to increased opportunities for emerging players, sparking a hopeful outlook for Tennessee’s future performance.
