The Tennessee Titans have bolstered their roster by signing defensive lineman Truman Jones off the New England Patriots’ practice squad. This move was confirmed by his agency, JL Sports. At just 25 years old, Jones has already made a significant impression, particularly with Titans’ head coach Mike Vrabel, who showered the player with praise earlier this month.
Vrabel expressed his admiration for Jones, stating, “I’m not supposed to have favorites, but I would say that Truman’s close to the list if I had one. He’s an extremely hard worker.” He pointed out that Jones consistently performs at a high level, noting his inclusion in discussions for player of the week recognition on both defense and special teams throughout the year. Vrabel also emphasized Jones’ dedication to preparation, saying, “He prepares as a starter each and every week,” highlighting the player’s ongoing development and potential readiness for game situations.
The Patriots originally signed Jones last winter after the Kansas City Chiefs waived him as an undrafted free agent. He made his NFL debut in Week 18 of the last season, recording two tackles in a victory against the Buffalo Bills. This season, the Patriots elevated him to the active roster for their Week 6 matchup against the New Orleans Saints, where he participated in 11 snaps on special teams.
Jones now joins a Titans team that is seeking to turn their season around, having suffered a disappointing 38-14 defeat to the Indianapolis Colts, dropping their record to 1-7. His previous connection with the Titans’ general manager, Mike Borgonzi, who was with Kansas City during Jones’ signing, could provide an opportunity for him to thrive in his new environment. This signing reflects the Titans’ commitment to strengthening their defensive lineup as they work to improve their performance in the remainder of the season.
