The Tennessee Titans are advancing in their head coaching search, having appointed Mike McCoy as the interim coach following the dismissal of Brian Callahan in October. McCoy is set to lead the team through the final three games of the 2025 season while Mike Borgonzi and Chad Brinker consider potential long-term successors.

In a recent update by Dianna Russini of The Athletic, a shortlist of candidates has emerged as the Titans approach a key decision-making period in January. This comes just ahead of the Titans’ Week 16 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. Among the candidates being considered, Matt Nagy, the current offensive coordinator for the Chiefs, seems to be the front-runner. Nagy has significant ties to Borgonzi due to their shared history in Kansas City, spanning nearly a decade.

Nagy’s potential conversation with Borgonzi could happen on the field during their pre-game preparations, although formal discussions about the position are not allowed. The Chiefs, who have been eliminated from playoff contention, have several assistants seeking new opportunities this offseason.

Another intriguing name on the list is Lou Anarumo, the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts. Despite never having been a head coach, Anarumo has garnered interest from other teams, including the New York Giants. His recent success with the Colts’ defense may counterbalance the challenges he faced with the Bengals last season.

Matt Burke, current defensive coordinator for the Houston Texans, also appears on the Titans’ list. Burke started his coaching career with the Titans, providing him familiarity with the organization. His diverse experience, including previous roles in Miami and as a game management coach, may prove beneficial.

Chris Shula, who serves as the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, could bring a blend of youth and innovation to the Titans. With coaching roots in the renowned Shula family, Chris has worked closely under Sean McVay, a coach known for producing strong leaders in the league.

Additionally, defensive coordinators from the Titans’ AFC South rival teams are in the spotlight. Anthony Campanile from the Jacksonville Jaguars and Jeff Hafley from the Green Bay Packers both bring valuable experience. Campanile has impressed this season, while Hafley’s ability to handle both defensive coordination and past head coaching experience makes him a compelling candidate.

Lastly, Jesse Minter, the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers, has emerged as another potential choice. Minter carries a strong endorsement from his association with Jim Harbaugh’s playoff-bound squad and has previously coached successfully at Vanderbilt.

As the Titans refine their shortlist, the coaching landscape continues to evolve, offering the potential for a fresh direction with the right decisions. With such a variety of candidates, fans may hope for a transformative leadership revival in the upcoming season.
