A significant drug interception took place recently in Kadavu, as the Fiji Police Force’s Operation Sasamaki Team seized several large bags containing parcels of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana from a fiberglass boat in open waters. Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (A/ACP) Kasiano Vusonilawe acknowledged that the successful operation was the result of a tip-off regarding the transportation of illicit substances in the area.
The team acted quickly on the information received, intercepting the boat and making five arrests. All suspects, along with the alleged illegal cargo, were taken into custody. Investigations are ongoing.
A/ACP Vusonilawe commended the collaboration between the police and the public, stressing the importance of continued cooperation to address drug-related issues in the region. He reiterated the police force’s unwavering focus on eliminating both “green and white” drugs, urging the public to report any suspicious activities either through Crimestoppers at 919 or directly to the relevant police authorities.
Operation Sasamaki, a cornerstone in the Fiji Police Force’s strategy to curb drug production and trafficking, remains active across all five policing divisions. This recent interception also aligns with ongoing efforts that have seen substantial marijuana seizures, including a previous haul of over 31,000 plants from various sites in Fiji.
The nationwide crackdown, which has led to numerous arrests and positive community engagement, underscores the importance of collective action against drug offenses. The Fiji Police Force continues to tackle illegal drug activities vigorously, with an emphasis on maintaining public safety and fostering a healthier future for all citizens.
This collaboration between law enforcement and the community represents a critical step towards a drug-free Fiji, bringing hope for safer neighborhoods and a more secure environment. It also highlights the police’s commitment to confronting drug networks, ensuring that they bring perpetrators to justice while preventing further proliferation of illicit drugs.
