Tim Pütz has kicked off his tennis season on a high note, securing his first doubles victory of the year at the Australian Open. The Frankfurt native, paired with Kevin Krawietz, triumphed against the duo of Valentin Vacherot and Arthur Rinderknech, winning with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
Competing in perfect summer conditions, with temperatures reaching 28 degrees, Pütz is optimistic as he begins the new year professionally in Australia. Despite facing travel stress due to a late arrival and an early match, he and Krawietz managed to deliver a strong performance, successfully defending all their serves against the French-Monegasque duo of Vacherot and Rinderknech, who happen to be cousins. “It was stressful with the late arrival and the early match, but luckily we managed,” Pütz commented in an interview with hr-sport, expressing relief at their solid first-round showing.
As they prepare for their next challenge against Brazilian opponents Orlando Luz and Rafael Matoz in the second round, Pütz is keen to maintain the momentum. “Now we’re trying to rest a bit,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of recovery ahead of their next match. With the potential for four more matches in the tournament, Pütz conveyed his enthusiasm, remarking, “Now it can really get going.” His positive outlook sets a hopeful tone for the rest of the Australian Open.
