The Ministry of Fisheries’ Team Aqua North has successfully wrapped up a three-day training initiative for tilapia farmers in Namocemoce Village, Seaqaqa, with the goal of enhancing aquaculture practices and boosting farm productivity in the northern region. The training took place in Dreketi and emphasized practical, hands-on instruction.
During the program, participants engaged in various field activities designed to improve their skills and knowledge. These included fish sampling techniques to monitor the health and growth of tilapia, methods for calculating feed to increase feeding efficiency, soil testing to determine pond suitability, and water retention strategies to ensure optimal aquaculture conditions.
Farmers from the provinces of Cakaudrove, Bua, and Macuata were nominated to attend, reflecting a collaborative effort to advance inland fisheries and aquaculture development. Those selected are expected to return to their communities and implement the knowledge acquired, thereby strengthening local fish farming initiatives.
The Ministry of Fisheries reiterated that this training aligns with its commitment to enhancing the capacity of farmers, increasing tilapia production, and promoting sustainable aquaculture practices throughout the Northern Division. This proactive approach not only benefits the farmers but also supports community development and food security in the region.
