An explosion shook the Baja California State Attorney General’s Office in Tijuana on Wednesday night, leading U.S. officials to raise a security alert for American travelers in the area, which is just a mile from the border. Eyewitness accounts and video evidence suggest that the facility was subjected to multiple drone strikes, with explosions occurring in rapid succession.
Fortunately, the attack did not result in any injuries; however, it did cause damage to six vehicles parked in the vicinity of the law enforcement facility. The incident highlights a growing concern regarding increasing violence linked to terrorist groups, drug cartels, gangs, and other criminal organizations operating throughout Baja California. In light of these developments, the State Department has issued a Level 3 security alert, recommending that Americans reconsider their travel plans to the region.
National security expert Ron Bee pointed out the significant focus of drug cartels on U.S. operations, emphasizing that 97% of all illegal drugs are consumed in the United States. This connection means that the cartels’ primary business interests are inherently linked to American markets.
In response to the drone attack, U.S. officials are advising travelers to steer clear of Tijuana while law enforcement authorities investigate the situation. Marie Montgomery, a spokesperson for AAA, urges those planning to cross the border to consult the current advisories available on the State Department’s website, which are tailored to reflect recent developments in specific areas.
Bee further noted that while travel warnings to Mexico are not new, it remains crucial for travelers to stay informed about the specific risks tied to various regions. He affirmed that the State Department regularly issues guidance regarding safe travel practices in the country, reinforcing the importance of exercising caution, particularly in areas deemed unsafe.
Despite the alarming incident, Americans are encouraged to stay informed and take necessary precautions when traveling, ensuring their safety while navigating the complexities of cross-border visits.
