Tigers and Nationals Set for Doubleheader After Stormy Weather Cancellation

Storms swept through Nationals Park on Tuesday afternoon, leading to the cancellation of the Detroit Tigers’ game against the Washington Nationals. Despite a temporary break in the rain, forecasts indicated that more inclement weather was on the way, prompting Major League Baseball to call off the game.

To make up for the lost action, the Tigers and Nationals are set to play a doubleheader on Wednesday, July 2. The first game is planned to begin at 1:05 p.m., with the second game starting at the usual time of 6:45 p.m. For the Tigers, left-handed reliever Tyler Holton will take the mound as the opener in Game 1, while right-hander Jack Flaherty is slated for a traditional start in Game 2.

Currently, the Tigers hold a strong record of 52-32 and are coming off a successful run, having won five of their last seven games after a brief three-game losing streak. The Nationals, having just returned from a challenging nine-game west coast trip, will look to build on their recent performance; they went 5-5 in their last ten games, a significant turnaround after suffering an 11-game losing streak prior.

Should the weather cooperate, the teams are also scheduled to conclude their three-game series on Thursday night, July 3. Despite the disruptions, both teams are finding their footing, which bodes well for a competitive remainder of the series.
