As of now, Throne and Liberty boasts approximately 292,116 concurrent players, placing it among the top half of Steam’s most popular games. This early success is notable given the mixed reviews it has received, particularly regarding server issues and concerns over microtransactions.
Server problems have emerged as the primary challenge for Throne and Liberty, with players expressing frustration after spending considerable time creating characters only to face disconnections. Additionally, the inability to select different servers has left players with few options other than hoping for improvements.
Despite these hurdles, Throne and Liberty is performing well, following the trends set by previous Amazon Games titles like Lost Ark and New World. Initially conceived as a sequel to Lineage, Throne and Liberty is marketed as a free-to-play MMO featuring both PvE and PvP elements in a dynamic, seamless environment. The game experienced multiple delays throughout its extensive development process.
In the past, during its beta phase, players shared that they enjoyed the gameplay experience in Throne and Liberty, looking forward to participating in large-scale PvP battles and raid dungeons. While the overarching narrative and quests may not break new ground in the MMO genre, many players found enjoyment in the action-oriented aspects of the game.
However, Amazon Games has faced challenges in maintaining player engagement after strong initial launches, having experienced similar issues with New World, which required extensive rework and is now attempting to revitalize its audience with the console version titled New World: Aerturnum.
