A tragic accident in South Florida claimed the lives of three teenage boys on Monday night. The Broward Sheriff’s Office reported the incident occurred around 7 p.m. on North Federal Highway, near a shopping plaza in Pompano Beach. The crash involved a 2024 Acura Integra and a 2014 BMW M5.

Authorities revealed that the driver of the Acura, 18-year-old Richard Alcocer, had been exiting the shopping plaza onto Northwest 18th Street, intending to head south on North Federal Highway. Meanwhile, Alcocer was traveling southbound when he reportedly struck a raised concrete curb in the median. This collision caused him to lose control of the vehicle, leading to a severe crash with the BMW, which then rotated and struck a Broward County Transit bus stop, a concrete light pole, and a tree.

Emergency responders from Pompano Beach Fire Rescue rushed to the scene and worked diligently to extricate Alcocer’s passengers from the BMW, identified as Miguel Montez, 16, and Ruben Baltazar, 15. Unfortunately, all three boys were later pronounced dead at Broward Health North.

Investigators are exploring the possibility that Alcocer’s speed may have contributed to the accident, and the Broward Sheriff’s Office has stated that the investigation is ongoing.

This devastating incident underscores the importance of safe driving practices, particularly among young drivers. As authorities continue their investigation, there is hope that raising awareness around road safety will help prevent such tragedies in the future.
