Three sisters are excitedly gearing up for the Rangoli competition at the Radio Fiji Two/Mirchi FM “Rewa” Diwali Dhoom, taking place today at Damodar City in Labasa. The Rangoli and poster contests are among the most anticipated events this year, as students look forward to showcasing their artistic talent.
Tanishi Mahi Naidu, a Year 10 student from Labasa College, is eager to improve upon her second-place finish from last year. “I came second last year, and I’m trying hard to go a step further this year. Balancing studies and preparations is challenging, but I’m grateful for the chance to display my skills,” she shared.
Her younger sister, Mahek Naidu, a Year 3 student at Qawa Primary, is excited to participate for the first time. Inspired by her sister’s experience last year, she expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I saw my sister taking part last year, and that really inspired me to join this year.”
Their middle sister, Mahima Naidu, currently in Year 7 at Qawa Primary, is also set to unleash her creativity in the competition. The Diwali Dhoom not only promises a vibrant celebration but also features a night filled with lively performances, music, cultural displays, and entertainment, highlighting the festival’s spirit in Labasa.
The event includes various competitions ranging from Thali and Sweets to Rangoli, poster contests, and Diya decoration. This wide array of activities will provide the community with ample opportunities to demonstrate their creativity and Diwali spirit. The Mirchi FM and Radio Fiji Two Diwali Dhoom kicks off today from 6 PM to 10 PM, ensuring a memorable evening of music, color, and cultural richness.
Such events are vital for community bonding, showcasing the unification of various ethnic backgrounds through festivity and shared joy, reflecting the essence of our multicultural landscape. As Labasa comes alive with the festivities, the anticipation of an exciting celebration of lights and culture fills the air.
