Tanishi Mahi Naidu, a Year 10 student from Labasa College, is striving to improve on her second-place finish from the previous year. “I came second last year, and I’m trying hard to go a step further this year. Balancing studies and preparations is challenging, but I’m grateful for the chance to display my skills,” she shared with enthusiasm.

Her younger sister, Mahek Naidu, a Year 3 student at Qawa Primary, is thrilled to participate for the first time. Inspired by Tanishi’s experience last year, Mahek expressed her excitement, stating, “I saw my sister taking part last year, and that really inspired me to join this year.”

Their middle sister, Mahima Naidu, who is in Year 7 at Qawa Primary, is also ready to showcase her creativity in the competition. The Diwali Dhoom is not only set to be a vibrant celebration but also promises a night filled with lively performances, music, cultural displays, and entertainment, shining a light on the festival’s spirit in Labasa.

The events will feature a wide range of competitions, including Thali and Sweets, Rangoli, poster contests, and Diya decoration. This variety will offer the community plenty of opportunities to display their creativity and embrace the spirit of Diwali. The festivities will kick off from 6 PM to 10 PM, promising a memorable evening filled with music, color, and cultural richness.

Such events play a crucial role in fostering community bonds and highlighting the unity among diverse ethnic backgrounds through shared festivity and joy. As Labasa comes alive with the Diwali celebrations, there is a palpable excitement in the air for this remarkable celebration of lights and culture.
