A transformative three-day rugby training program is set to take place in Labasa from December 2-4, organized by the Drua Foundation alongside the Reddy Foundation. This initiative is part of a shared vision to enhance rugby’s technical aspects in Fiji’s rural areas. By launching this program in Vanua Levu, young players, coaches, and officials in the community will have access to experienced trainers and professional rugby insights.
Mark Evans, CEO of Fijian Drua, expressed the club’s excitement in collaborating with the Reddy Foundation on this significant project. He highlighted the growing number of similar programs, which aim to expand their reach and impact within the community. This training also incorporates sessions on safeguarding and financial literacy, with ANZ leading these crucial topics.
Participants in the program will benefit from three World Rugby Level One courses, covering first aid, coaching introductions, and strength and conditioning tailored to children. By the end of this program, they will be equipped to implement these skills within their communities, supporting local rugby development.
The initiative also has the backing of Damodar Event Cinemas, illustrating a collaborative approach towards community development through sports. The Reddy Foundation’s managing director, Rohit Reddy, emphasized the positive outcomes of these partnerships, noting the program’s ability to unite people through sports, education, and the promotion of resilience.
This initiative is part of broader efforts by the Drua Foundation to foster rugby talent and community engagement across Fiji. Past efforts include collaborations with organizations like the New Zealand Government, which have contributed to rugby development in regions like Naitasiri, focusing on women’s participation in sports and culminating in community tournaments.
By continuously expanding these programs, the Drua Foundation is reinforcing its commitment to utilizing rugby as a tool for positive change, encouraging healthy lifestyles and supporting the well-being of youth in Fiji. These initiatives are not only about nurturing athletic talent but also about fostering community spirit and resilience, promising a hopeful future for Fijian youth through sports.
